MH De Young Memorial Museum
The MH De Young Memorial Museum, otherwise known as the De Young Museum is a museum of fine arts and is located at the Golden Gate Park. The old museum was opened back in 1895 and originally was decorated with cast-concrete ornaments which, after about 50 years, were removed due to being a hazard. The old museum was severely damaged after the Loma Prieta Earthquake back in 1989.
In October of 2005, the new De Young Museum was completed and with the previous experience in mind, they constructed the new museum using a unique system that counteracts with the movement caused by earthquake. Similar to modern buildings, it now uses ball bearing plates to withstand the shake.
For those who enjoy art exhibits, this is a good place to visit if you are on San Francisco travel. From the outside you'd already have a great view and when you get in, you'd just be in awe. At the top of the tower you could enjoy the panoramic view of the city. At night the museum is even more spectacular. You will definitely enjoy the view of the city with its night lights and you'd want to keep coming back because of the great view!
Make sure to check out the events here and grab your tickets as soon as they are available. It's a well known place for its exhibits of modern arts as well as the Pan-American form of art. They have a vast collection from textiles to stonework of South America. They also have a sculpture garden with beautiful sculptures.
The De Young Museum's Hamon Tower is controversial because of its height but it's one of the tourist's favorite spot for San Francisco travel and tourism because of the city view from the top. You'll see the totality of San Francisco from here and you'll have a great view of the Golden Gate bridge as well.
Have fun out there!
