Where does Exploratorium locate? The physical address of this museum is 3601 Lyon Street, San Francisco. In fact, this is the address of Palace of Fine Art building, which is a monumental construction in Marina district close to the San Francisco Bay, off Highway 101 and within a short walk to the Golden Gate Bridge. Exploratorium is located inside this building and once served as the Exhibit Hall until 1964.

Car Driving Directions:
- For visitors coming from the North San Francisco Bay, drive across the Golden Gate Bridge and follow the signs towards Downtown San Francisco. Stay on the left ramp and take the Marina exit. Merge onto Marina Boulevard and proceed on it. Pass the Lyon Street and stay straight on Marina Boulevard. Then turn right onto Divisadero Street, then right onto Jefferson Street, and another right onto Broderick Street. Proceed on Broderick Street and veer left on Marina Boulevard for an immediate move into the right lane. Take a right on Yacht Road. Follow the signs for Exploratorium Parking which is next to the San Francisco Yacht Club. In any case that you skip this parking lot, follow the signs on your right for additional parking at Crissy Field.
- If you are driving from the East Bay, travel across the Bay Bridge and then stick to the signs for the 9th Street Exit. Drive for one block and take a right onto 9th Street. Keep driving in the left lane and veer left onto Hayes Street immediately past Market Street. Turn right on Van Ness Avenue and follow the signs for the Golden Gate Bridge. Turn left onto Lombard Street and then immediately move into the right lane. Veer right onto Divisadero Street and take a left onto Marine Blvd. Once on Marine, move into the right-hand lane, and then a right onto Yacht Road. Follow the directions indicated above for Exploratorium Parking lot.
- For those from the South Bay or Peninsula, you can either take Highway 101 or Interstate 280.
- Take Highway 101 north towards the Market Street exit. Choose Van Ness Avenue which runs to Lombard Street. Turn left onto Lombard and stay on the right lane. Then turn right onto Divisadero Street and a left onto Marina Blvd. Once on Marine, immediately move into the right-hand lane. Then take the directions mentioned above towards Exploratorium Parking.
- If coming from I-280, take 19th Ave and cross Golden Gate Park. Then 19th Ave will become Park Presidio Boulevard. Stay on the Park Blvd and follow the signs for Highway 101. Then move right onto Geary Blvd, left onto Van Ness Ave and keep on the left lane. Turn left onto Lombard Street and move into the right lane. Veer right onto Divisadero Street and then take a left onto Marina Blvd. Once on Marine, immediately move into the right-hand lane. Then follow the directions to Exploratorium Parking lot.
Bicycling Directions:
Thanks to the flat terrain Exploratorium occupies, visitors can take advantage of bike riding to get to the museum. There are a number of bike routes throughout San Francisco and you are encouraged to download a San Francisco Bike Map listed below and pick out a route accessible to your current location. If you are riding bike to Exploratorium from Aquatic Park, there is a two-mile ride on a direct off-street bike path, which runs along the Bay with a short uphill passage. Then follow the bike path for Marina Blvd and Fort Mason. Continue along Marina Blvd for about 1.5 miles and move right at the last stoplight. Exploratorium is seated just across the street, on the left side.

Bus Traveling Directions:
Bus lines towards Exploratorium is approved and dedicated. No matter tour buses or yellow school buses, they all have to use the approved routes without any exception. There are slight differences between the routes for tour/charter buses and yellow school buses. Therefore, you are advised to take a close look at the website below to make sure a correct series of directions.

Public Transportation:
Exploratorium is easy to access via several pubic transportation methods. For instance, San Francisco Muni Bus 30, 43, 28 and 29 have stops nearby, while Bus 22, 41 and 45 stop within a short walking distance. If you depart from Fisherman's Wharf, take Bus 30 to Stockton Bus stop. For more info about Muni Bus, please call at 415-673-6864.
If you happen to take Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART), get off at Montgomery Street station. Walk for one and a half block on Market Street towards 3rd Street. Then take Bus 30 Stockton which is around the corner.
In addition, most Golden Gate Transit buses, which run between the downtown San Francisco and the bound, have stops near Exploratorium. You can either consult the driver of the bus you take, or contact Golden Gate Transit Information Depart via 415-455-2000.
