The Asian Art Museum of San Francisco is a museum at San Francisco in California dedicated to the collections belonging to Asia and is considered as one of the world's finest Asian museum. It has a vast collection of Asian art including paintings, sculptures and various other artifacts from all over Asia, ranging from India, Japan, Persia, China etc.
Today, the museum is known to have around 17,000 art pieces, some of them are 6,000 years old. Thus, it gives visitors an opportunity to dig into the Asian culture from as back as 6,000 years.
Asian Art Museum conducts a free long guide tour for the permanent collection of museum, a best way for exploring the museum during first visit. One can also take the audio tour which is available in various languages which include English, Spanish, Mandarin, French and Cantonese. The museum also conducts a Museum Masterpiece tour where visitors can watch the special exhibits. One can also wander on own in the galleries which fascinated the most. All in all, it takes 4 to 5 hours in seeing the museum through 3 or 4 guided tours.
A popular attraction of this museum is a very old art piece of Buddha preserved in Gallery 16. It has an inscription at its base telling that the statue belonged to the year 338. After the museum reopened in 2003, the special exhibits since then have been Masters of Bamboo, Geisha: Beyond the Painted Smile, the Goryeo Dynasty and The Art of Tetsuya Noda. In addition to this, the museum conducts several events mainly the Japanese Tea Party.
