The most important film festival held in this city is the San Francisco International Film Festival which is held each spring (April-May) and lasts for two weeks. It's recognized in the United States as the oldest running film festival. Each year about 150 movies are screened from about 50 different countries.

A relatively recent addition is the San Francisco International Animation Festival that just celebrated its fourth year last week. This festival is held over a five-day period.

The San Francisco International Children's Film Festival will also celebrate its fourth annual hosting in April 2010. It's set to be located in the Bay Area.
