The oldest and first local newspaper ever to be published in San Francisco was The Daily Morning Chronicle. The newspapers first copy was published in San Francisco in 1868 by Charles and M.H. de Young.

By the year 1880 the Daily Morning Chronicle had become the largest newspaper in circulation in the entire American West Coast.

However, today most people know this ancient newspaper by a different name, it is now called the San Francisco Chronicle and it still remains one of the most read newspapers in the city of San Francisco.
