What occurred in the history of San Francisco between 1950 and 1980
The 50s represented disillusionment that thinking people from various walks of life began to feel with the American Ideals and system. These thinkers came to be called "Beatniks," by columnist Herbert Caen. They evolved into the peace-loving hippies of the 1960s who were quite heavily into psychedelics.
The Late 70s saw the rise and death of gay supervisor Harvey Milk who restored pride to the gay community. The start of the 80s saw the emergence of the deadly disease, AIDS.
