History of the San Francisco Opera
The San Francisco Opera is the second largest of its kind in the entire United States. It was built in 1923 by Gaetano Merola and after his death was managed by Kurt Herbert Adler.
The Opera house has come a long way since its first show in 1923 and now hosts at least 10 operas that showcase approximately 75 performances each year between September and July.
Some of the most famous premiers here have been Blood Moon in 1961, Dead Man Walking in 2000 and Appomattox in 2007.
