It now takes a lot longer to get a destination than before. One study found that commuting time increased by 54% during rush hours (when compared to the time spent traveling the same route during lighter hours of traffic).
The study also found that San Francisco's rush hour commuters spend an extra 72 hours commuting each year while those traveling during non-peak hours spent an extra 37 hours.
