San Francisco's local celebrities

Herbert Caen, Pulitzer Prize winner and Columnist with the San Francisco Chronicle, was one of the most well known local celebrities until his demise in 1997. Caen wrote a column called "It's News to Me," that covered events and happenings taking place in the city in a witty vein. The locals absolutely loved his column.

Other well known local celebrities include Stephen LaBounty (Woody), an expert on San Francisco's history, busker David Johnson who's also known as the World Famous Bushman, favorite San Francisco eccentric, Frank Chu, and Virginia Ramos, aka The Tamale Lady who sells home-made tamales in the Mission and SOMA lanes.
