The San Francisco filming of Milk

The epic movie Milk starring Sean Penn as Harvey Milk, the supervisor was shot on Castro Street from January to March, 2008. The movie involved a lot of local research with the production team and especially writer Dustin Lance Black, talking to just about anyone who knew Harvey Milk.

The camera shop owned by Milk was bought by the production team to be used in the film. The whole street was given a makeover with a fresh coat of paint and a retro look to recreate the way it might have appeared during Milk's existence in the 70s.
