Presidio Of San Francisco
The Presidio of San Francisco is a park with rich history. It is at the north of San Francisco Peninsula just within the area for the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. In the park you'll see scenic vistas, hills and woody areas that are great for sightseeing. It is overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge too as well as the Pacific Ocean.
The park, with its rich history, had been recognized back in 1962 to be a National Historic attraction of travel San Francisco CA as it had been a military center back in 1776, it had been passed from Mexico to the United States back in 1847 and it was only in 1994 that it no longer had the military status but it was turned over to the National Park Service which became the end of its over 200 years of use for the military and it became a land for the public.
At the Presidio, they have restored and partially remodeled some of the old buildings. The place also houses over 5,000 residents and it's also a commercial area. You can get your Starbucks Coffee right in Presidio too!
At the Presidio of San Francisco, there is a newly built facility called the LDAC or the Letterman Digital Arts Center which is the headquarters for LucasArts as well as for Industrial Lights and Magic. In the future, Gap clothing stores' owner and founder Donald Fisher wants to built a 9,000 square meter museum which may be called the Contemporary Arts Museum of the Presidio. The plan by Donald Fisher had been subjected to several criticisms especially from the preservationist groups.
Now, the Presidio of San Francisco is known not just for being a park where people of San Francisco can go for leisurely activities but it also has a residential leasing program which makes it the only American recreation area with this type of program.
Have fun out there!
