San Francisco Bay

The San Francisco bay is an estuary where Californian water flows towards the Pacific Ocean. The San Pablo Bay is connected to it but the two bays are sometimes referred to as the San Francisco Bay as a whole.

The Sacramento to San Joaquin Delta together with the San Francisco Bay is in fact the highly important of all the ecological habitats for California. The bay is a nursery for Pacific salmons, halibut and Dungeness crabs and they also have a small portion for salt marshes where endangered species could still thrive and protected.

If you travel to San Francisco, go by the bay and check if you're just in time for waterfowl watching. They flock here every year as a refuge and they're a great sight to watch. Not only waterfowls come here, the California least tern and clapper rail can also be found on this area. It's a great refuge for migratory and non-migratory birds.

From the bay you'd also have a nice view of the Golden Gate Bridge. It's great to go fishing here during good tidings. You won't only enjoy fishing with your friends but you also have a great view as well while waiting for a catch.

The bay is a great place to go kitesurfing or windsurfing. Boaters love it here as well but it's the wind surfers who love it here because of its consistent wind of up to 25 knots. It's windy but it's safe as ocean swells don't reach the bay.

Care to go yachting? It's a popular activity here as well and there are yacht racing competitions here as well. If you're in San Francisco Bay make sure to try out some water sports. For sure you'd have a great time. You may also meet some of the top sailors of the world here.
