San Francisco Chinatown- The Largest and Oldest Chinatown in the US
San Francisco Chinatown is deeply rooted in history with her origins dating back to the 1840s. Another feather in the cap of San Francisco China town is that it also represents the largest Chinese community outside the Asian region. Visitors should not mistake this to be a mere tourist attraction of San Francisco. China Town, San Francisco in fact represents a city within the city. With its own government, traditions, culture, infrastructure, and the unmistakably Chinese restaurants, herbal shops, pagoda roofs and temples, visitors are easily influenced to believe that they have landed on a foreign soil altogether. For the immigrant Chinese, China town is a home away from home.

San Francisco China Town has gone through several modernization efforts and even some threats of evacuation lead by local real estate lobby. But, this historic space has survived those threats and in modern times, visitors will notice a distinct shift towards making China Town more friendly for the western visitors.
