Districts

You won't ignore the various districts when you travel in San Francisco. The financial district of San Francisco Districts serves as its main central business district. The area is surrounded by high rise towers and lies between Grant Avenue and Union Square district. Other places like Columbus street, China town. Embarcadero also do surround the place. Some of the city's tallest buildings like 555 California street, Transamerica Pyramid, 101 California Street and 345 California Street are located in this district.

San Francisco districts are also home to city's corporation headquarters, firms, banks and financial institutions. It is also a home to Wells Fargo Bank, Barclays Global, Gap, Union Bank of California and Salesforce.com. Federal Reserve head quarters are also located in this area. Wall Street of the west is a traditional heart of the city. Several shopping malls like Crocker Galleria, Ferry Building, Rincon Center complex and the Embarcadero Center are also located in this area.

San Francisco districts were the main settlement for European and American settlement during Mexican rule. Due to Gold rush wealth and business, it became the city's financial centre. In 1906 the neighborhood was completely destroyed by natural disasters like Earthquake and fire. Due to Earthquake fears the city remained low rise till 20th century, after which the city boomed in skyscrapers.

Due to height restrictions and over crowding, San Francisco districts boundaries shifted to SOMA. Several consulates are also located in this district including Brazil, Japan, Mexico, Singapore, United Kingdom and republic of China. The Mission district is also neighborhood of San Francisco. The area occupies land divided into ranchos. The neighborhood is diverse economically, with a mixed population of Latino, White and Asian.

San Francisco districts were earlier inhabited by Ohlone Indians till the arrival of Spanish missionaries by 17th century. In late 19th century, immigrant workers from Germany moved into the area. Later it became the commercial center of the city. The inner part of the district was also known as Latin America.
