Weather Info
When travel to San Francisco, you will notice that the city has a mild climate. Though California is known to have high temperatures, San Francisco has a temperate marine climate all through the year. There are dry summers and wet, mild winters.
In most of the months the temperature hovers between 15 degree Celsius and 25 degree Celsius. There can be humid and cool weather even during the summer months. The winters are chilly and therefore tourists must bring adequate warm clothes.
Also, rainfall is not uncommon during the winter months. During spring the temperature is mild. It is still advised that you bring a lightweight jacket for sudden fluctuations in the temperature.
The sharp topography of the region has led to a number of microclimates. For example more fog can be found in the western part of the city that is closer to the ocean. There are also large differences in the amount of rainfall in the different regions of the city. This is due to the tall hills situated in the center of the peninsula.
You can expect the city to be enveloped in fogs during the mornings and the evenings and this happens especially during the summer months. However the weather clears up as the day progresses. The marine layer helps to keep the temperatures much lower than what you might expect in the months of June, July and August.
During autumn the city gets the traditional summer time and the temperature increases in the months of September and October. From December to March it is the rainy season in the city when the region gets an average of 20 inches of rain.
Tourists who travel in San Francisco are recommended to bring long pants and some light woolen clothing. While traveling north to Napa, Marin and Sonoma counties or to the southern regions such as San Jose and Santa Cruz, t-shirts and shorts are the best dresses as the summer temperatures are much more warm here than in the city.
Have fun out there!
